The Client
The client is a partner in a joint venture on a major transport infrastructure project worth £588million.
Client Objectives
Our relationship with them is one that spanned a number of years and their objectives changed over the course of the project. Initially they were looking for an engineering specialist to assist them with planning resource, recruitment and then retention of specialist railway engineers to facilitate the project. As the project came to culmination they were looking for help in assisting them on their planned redundancy program.
Our Strategy
- The first step in the recruitment process was meeting with the project team to understand the project in detail and their requirements. Once we were sure we had full understanding we then devised an appropriate recruitment strategy to meet the requirements.
- We advised the client on market rates and potential challenges.
- As the project required a number of specialist engineers over a couple of years we set about building a talent pool of suitably qualified and screened people so that we could react quickly should additional resource be needed
- To do this we used a combination of contingent and networking methods.
- For the planned redundancies we organised an open day and workshops /advice clinic to advise and help those leaving the project to find new positions that were best for their needs.
Challenges faced
- The niche engineering skillsets required
- The volume of people required and the fact it was concentrated on one location.
Results
Since the beginning of 2014 we have placed 36 highly specialist engineers for the project. This has helped facilitate the success of the important transport project
