What would you do if you were given a day, every year, fully paid to support a charity of your choice?

That’s precisely what we offer our Amoria Bond employees as we encourage them to progress the lives of others and give back to society through volunteering!

We spoke to Lindsay Irvine, Contractor Care Manager at Amoria Bond, to find out how she spent her time volunteering with Open Kitchen MCR:

Who is your chosen charity, and what do they do?

Open Kitchen MCR is Manchester’s leading sustainable catering company made up of a team of passionate chefs who create amazing meals from food that would otherwise go to waste.

What did you do on your chosen charity day?

I supported the chefs in the kitchen with pot washing, meal preparation, and helped other volunteers to package up the meals we distributed.

Why is this charity important to you?

Manchester Council engaged Open Kitchen MCR to feed households across Manchester during the first lockdown, providing thousands of people in need with food and support. I also really value the way in which they operate as they utilise huge volumes of surplus food donated to them and make incredible meals with the ingredients.

Why should other people take advantage of the AB charity days?

It’s a great feeling to support those in need in your local community; you get to meet some fantastic people and develop new skills. Bearing in mind the current situation and financial impact COVID-19 has had on so many people, it really is a rewarding role to carry out and certainly put a lot into perspective for me.

Why is it important for businesses to give back to society?

I think the opportunity to work with and learn more about local charities is very important; it fosters great relationships and raises community spirit. COVID-19 has presented many challenges for many people; however, volunteering just a few hours of your time can be a positive way to support your local area.
